Joshua Yates is a contemporary and urban dancer, choreographer and teacher based in London. He began training in Ballet from a young age at the John-Cranko-School in Stuttgart (GER). He went on to train in urban dance (Breaking, House, Popping, Locking) and later contemporary dance.
Joshua has performed extensively both as part of a Hip Hop ensemble and individually at various theaters, events and competitions across Stuttgart and southern Germany. He has also taught House, Breaking and Hip Hop in Stuttgart and the surrounding area, the UK and as part of a social internship in Israel. In 2017 he started studying at London Contemporary Dance School. During this time he developed a strong interest in choreography, creating a variety of different works. His pieces square1, a solo of movement exploration as well as Mind The, a group piece created in collaboration with composer Erchao Gu, a master's student studying at The Guildhall School of Music, were both performed at The Place theater in 2019. In addition, Joshua had the opportunity to work with artists such as Mbulelo Ndabeni, Malik Nashad-Sharpe, Jamila Johnson-Small and Ingri Fiksdal. In summer 2019, Joshua completed a yoga teacher's training course in Austria and is since a fully certified yoga teacher. He has also worked as a teaching assistant at The Place in both the children and youth dance and center for advanced training departments. Joshua currently works as a freelance dance artist in London.
